Modern Oratory - Instructor Led Virtual Class
This course will teach students how to write and deliver a public speech effectively on a topic or an issue critical to society. The approach will be age-appropriate, and each class will have a goal. At the end of the course, students will deliver a three to five-minute speech without notes on their topic.
Students will learn to research, analyze, and synthesize information to conclude and support their stand on the topic. Students will learn speech delivery skills, how to best use pitch, volume, tone, pace, enunciation, facial expression, body language, and more. A self-assessment checklist will be provided to ensure the speech script is written well and practiced well for delivery. Students will get opportunities to practice the speech before delivering it. Students will submit the speech script for review and get evaluated for their speech delivery.
Skills developed can be used to compete at UIL (University Interscholastic League), for Modern Oratory, to deliver a speech when contending for student council or simple practice for Model UN activities.
